Once you retire, you are no longer represented by HCEA, ESP, or HCASA.
Join MRSPA and HEART to protect your pension and benefits.
The Maryland Retired School Personnel Association (MRSPA) is a nonprofit organization composed of retired school system personnel from around the state. HEART is your local retiree association focused on protecting your benefits and much more. Membership dues ($70/year) include membership in both organizations. The membership year runs from July 1 through June 30.

HEART
HEART is a non-profit organization dedicated to:

working for the general welfare of retired Howard County school personnel, including teachers, administrators, office professionals, and others who supported the educational program in a variety of ways.

advocating for the health benefits of HEART members, including committee membership on the HCPSS Health Benefits Committee
-
supporting beneficial legislation or other action on county, state, and federal levels; to oppose undesirable legislation or action.
-
collaborating with MRSPA, which is the only Maryland organization that works exclusively for retired school personnel and works to SAVE OUR PENSIONS.
-
collaborates with local and state organizations that support retired persons.
-
keeping its members informed of opportunities to serve the community and the profession.
-
promoting good fellowship among its members.

JOIN MRSPA & HEART
It's simple! Print the Application for Membership from link below and mail/email it to the state. Or go to a state web link HERE and fill out an online form. All instructions are on the form. You can choose, Join or Renew.
The State form includes the $50 annual dues for the state member-ship and the $20 annual dues for the local HEART membership. Only $70 for both. You may write a check every year, or better yet have it one time payroll deducted every July from your pension. The state pension system will send you a notice that it was deducted.

Switch-n-Save
Switch to Dues Deduction once/year at the July pension check to automatically pay your dues. No bills or checks to write. You can cancel at any time by contacting the MRSPA office... form link.
HEART only - annual dues are $20. When you choose to be a local member only, you do not have access to state benefits.
